When it comes to leadership, so much of what we consider to be common sense has yet to become common practice. Like knowing why your company exists or simply valuing your
employees' well-being as much as their well-doing.
When asked to define the ideal leader, many would emphasize traits associated with a pop-cultural idea of a "successful" (and typically male) boss, such as intelligence, toughness, determination, and vision. Other capabilities, commonly referred to as "soft skills", are often left off the list. That's because in our hyper-optimized and data-worshipping business world, purpose, mindfulness, self-care, empathy and vulnerability can sound unbusinesslike.
Research shows: The soft stuff gets you the hard stuff. Without these key attributes, a person can have first-class training, an incisive mind, and an endless supply of good ideas, but he or she still won't be a great leader.
